What's the name of this painting supply I saw on TV?

I remember seeing commercials for this, and wanted to learn more. The interior painting tools are somewhat spade-shaped, for getting into corners.. basically they allow you to paint right up into corners and around trim without getting paint where you don't want it. They also have extender handles for getting up into high corners. The tray itself is like a regular paint tray, but it has a rolling cylinder in it, taking up just the right amount of paint as you roll the painting tool over it. I think I saw this on a commercial, but haven't seen it lately and can't think of the name. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! What's the name of this painting supply I saw on TV?
I don't know the name, but Home Depot has them. I've seen them there.

Oil painting art supply question?

my gf recently took an oil painting class and she really likes it so i was trying to find a starter kit or something along those lines as a graduation present..... problem i know nothing about art supplies. please help me!Oil painting art supply question?
There are kits when you go to art stores. They have the basic paint, supplies and some brushes, some come with mini palette too. Check with Blick art supply online or with Pearl art supply. You be able to order them online or just go into an art store and ask the clerk.

The best gift that I like to get is a gift card to Blick, than I can buy the things that i need. I hope it helps.Oil painting art supply question?
i'd get her a gift card for dick blick, utrecht, jerry's artarama, or your local art supply store.

picking colors for somebody else is tricky, everyone has personal preferences.

if you must by her paint, i say buy her an opaque and transparent red, blue, yellow, green, violet, and white. the back of the tube will tell you if it's opaque or transparent. example- titanium white is opaque, zinc white is transparent. anything that says cadmium is opaque. avoid colors w/ 'hue' in its name. 'hues' are combinations of pigments mixed to look like the real thing, they're cheaper than the original but bad for mixing colors, makes things muddy.

a gift card and a barrier cream (like invisible glove, helps keep toxic pigments from being absorbed into your skin and makes washing paint off of your hands easier) says i care %26amp; i want you healthy and alive
What a great idea, you are a generous boyfriend. She will already have some supplies, so rather than duplicate them by mistake, why not buy a gift card from one of the local art stores near your house? Another possibility is to buy a gift card from one of the online art suppliers. Here are some links for you:

http://www.cheapjoes.com -their goal is to be the best art supplier on the planet. They have annual art seminars in June (another great idea for her) and their own line of quality supplies.

http://www.asw.com -their goal is to be the cheapest. Because of the economy they are sending daily emails of a ';Deal of the Day';, which is always a good deal.

http://www.jerrysartarama.com -I'm not sure what they're doing with the bad economy, but they are always a responsible supplier.
maybe buy her some brushes (at Michael's or a local art store the brushes should be labeled Oil or Acrylic), a small canvas, and the basic colors - cadmium red, aquamarine blue, canary yellow, titanium white, and mars black. That would be a good start!
Italian Art store has free shipping on orders of over $150. They have kits of top brand oil colors. Prices are below Jerry's Blicks, Dan Smith etc
Ask you local art store like Miachel's arts and crafts or JoAnn fabrics... or whatever else there may be.

  • What supplies will I need to start an acrylic painting? Thorough answers only.?

I've decided to take up painting. Since I have no prior experience, I'm not sure how long this will last, but I'm taking the plunge anyway. I'm not sure what I'll need to get started. I mean, I know I need brushes and paints and things to paint on, but what KIND/TYPE of brushes? And what do people paint on? I'm thinking I want to do acryclic painting - what kind of paints are the best? What other supplies will I need? I'm serious about this, so please be serious in your answer. Thanks. 10 points. What supplies will I need to start an acrylic painting? Thorough answers only.?
you'll need a cup for water, canvases (they come as stretched and as panels, since you are just starting out, I would recommend panels because they are less expensive than stretched canvases, which can get very expensive with size and quality), I 've seen some cool stuff on partical board (available at lowe's) which is really cheap, jsut needs to be cut, gesso for prepping canvases and adding texture if you want texture, a good pallette (I use a glass one that runs about 30 bucks, but there are plastic ones and pads of pallette paper that are pretty good too). Paint comes in jars, tubes and bottles, usually tubes are the best quality, but bottles are comparable in quality and less expensive and usually have more in them. expect to buy larger quantities of black and white overall. what type of brushes to buy really depends on your preferred type. The most common types are synthetic (a very fine plastic type of material), Sable (real fine hair from a small furry animal) and camel (real thick hair). Since you are just starting out, I would recommend synthetic since they are easier to take care of than real hair, easier to clean, etc. one thing to remember: brushes are like tattoos... cheap isn't always good and good isn't always cheap. I'm not saying go out and spend 300 bucks on brushes, but before you buy it, give the bristles a little tug to see if they fall out easily. you don't want your bristles to litter your canvas. Also, everytime after you finish painting, thoroughly clean your brushes with a mild soap and water to keep them in shape. You'll also need either some very low lint cloths for wiping your brushes while painting or a lot of paper towels. some old shirts to wear while you paint are also necessary bc no matter how careful you are, you will get paint on yourself. an easel (table top or standing) is also a great thing to have. colored chalk is useful for mapping things out on your canvas before you start painting (graphite is supposedly a big no no, but i use it occassionally, when chalk gets on my nerves bc it can't make the detail i want). another thing I find useful for keeping lines straight is the painter's tape for delicate surfaces, it won't pull the paint off, but you can still tape off a straight line. that's pretty much everything you'll need basically. If you get more into it, there's more stuff that is more technical and helpful, but you just need the basics to gett started. Good Luck! What supplies will I need to start an acrylic painting? Thorough answers only.?
well for paints acrylic is good for beginners, but my preference is oil paint. its excellent except its very messy and a finished painting could take a whole month or more to dry depending on how large it is. but if u choose oil, go with the bob ross brand, its pricey but very good, if you don't want to go too far out price wise you should go with winston brand or i forget what its called something like winston and has a little horse and carriage on the front, its also very high quality. for brushes u will need a 2 in brush, a 1 1/2 inch brush, a filbert brush, a fan brush and if u want a miniature fan brush. as far as canvases go, you should go with an 18x16 thats what i usually use. if you need instruction, you should chek out some of Bob Ross's TV shows, you could probably buy them or watch them on the WLIW Create channel. or you could buy one of his step-by-step books. well i hope you found this helpful! good luck and happy painting!!
You will need several things to start painting:

Paint: I recommend acrylics, because they are easy to clean. It is also easy to clean your brushes... Go with Red, Blue, Yellow, Brown, Black, and White in a six pack beginners set. Liquitex Basics or store brands are generally good enough to start.

Brushes: Round, Filbert, and Flat brushes; 2-3 three of each. You can use brights instead of flats if you prefer, it just means longer bristles. You want a good mix of sizes: small, medium, and large.

Surface: You can buy prestretched canvas and gesso covered masonite panels at most places. Avoid canvasboards: canvas stretched over cardboard; they warp and fall apart very quickly.

Palette: You need a smooth surface to mix your paint on. I recommend ceramic tiles from home depot or another hardware store. A six inch white tile is about 50 cents. A razor blade scraper is another two dollars.

Other Stuff: Easels are optional. You can paint on a flat surface if you want. Dropcloths are useful, unless you want to spread newspapers around t protect the floor. You can use an old plastic cup for holding rinsewater. A spray bottle is very useful for acyrlics: spray a mist of water over your paint palette to keep the paint moist.

If prices of art materials increased such as oil paints, canvases etc. wat will be the supply and demand curve?

The topic is basically the question, I know that paintings usually means that the supply curve is vertical but what if prices of art materials increase? will it effect the supply and demand curve in any way?If prices of art materials increased such as oil paints, canvases etc. wat will be the supply and demand curve?
More supply less demand. If prices of art materials increased such as oil paints, canvases etc. wat will be the supply and demand curve?
In general: 1. If supply costs increase, then the supply curve shifts up.

    2. If the supply curve is vertical, a supply cost shock does not affect the supply curve.

For paintings: I would not apply the traditional supply-demand scheme here, because paintings are not homogeneous goods. Consider ';The Sunflowers'; of Van Gogh. He was not planning to paint them twice.

If you consider paintings as homogeneous goods, then the supply curve is not likely to be vertical. Consider a painter on an African market: they often paint the same painting several time for tourists and tourists buy several of them. Increasing material price will lead to an upward shift of the supply curve, meaning: a higher price and lower quantity.

What is an Art supply that looks like glue but can rub off once painted over?

I took an art class once and we were using water color paints

we also used a glue like substance that was applied with a paint brush

once it dried, you could paint over it

once that dried, you could rub it off and underneath was plain white (or whatever paper you were painting on)

    what is this called?

im trying to find it but can't think of the name

thanks! What is an Art supply that looks like glue but can rub off once painted over?
    Masking fluid.

You can also try rubber cement, if the paper is durable enough/project is not that important.

Also if you have large shapes you can use Reynolds Press and Seal wrap (found in the foil section in the grocery store). It works pretty well.

For nicer projects in large areas, they have professional frisket paper at art supply stores. What is an Art supply that looks like glue but can rub off once painted over?
    Its called Masking Fluid

    Try This Site

    http://ziggyart.co.uk/Products/Art_Masking_Fluid__WINSOR__NEWTON_Save_拢1!.aspx

Winsor %26amp; Newton Art Masking Fluid is a liquid with added pigmentation for masking areas of work needing protection when colour is applied in broad washes.

Winsor %26amp; Newton Art Masking Fluid should not be applied to damp paper or on soft sized papers and it is important to ensure that the paper is dry before you commence painting. For best results, do not leave on paper for too long. Art Masking Fluid can be removed with an eraser. Soapy water will remove any lingering Art Masking Fluid from your brush.
Masking fluid. It's white and comes in small bottles. It feels like rubber when you peel it off. You can find it at any art supply store that sells paints. You can also use it with other paints, but it's marketed for water colors.

What place in the world has the cheapest bulk art supplies? Needing paper, acrylics, canvas, paints, brushes.

Odd way to post the question - you can only buy from the companies you have access to, so start looking there. I have comics on my yahoo home page, when I click on the comic to see what I've missed in the past day or two - then a whole list of artist material supplies shows up. Each different comic has different advertisers with it. This might be a place for you to start so you can compare their prices. If you are looking for bulk to supply a school, you may be eligible for a special discount. • What are some essential art supplies that you feel every REAL artist (drawing/painting stuff) must have?

can you give me the brands

im talking about things like markers, pencils, paper, ect.

thanx :)What are some essential art supplies that you feel every REAL artist (drawing/painting stuff) must have?
I don't bother with brands for pencils - but I like 8B pencils for drawing. I also draw with a fountain pen and coloured ink, and a fine black pen that makes a strong line. Naturally I use charcoal, with white pastel on coloured paper, very striking.

For paint, I tend to stick to Windsor %26amp; Newton for oil colours - they are the most convenient brand to get in Ireland. I get either W %26amp; N for acrylics, or Galleria if it's handier. I tend not to use gouache unless I have very good paper for it. And watercolour also looks best with good paper, so I use Fabriano - I was in Italy last year and bought a lot of good pads. For a while I was making my own canvases, but it does save a lot of time to either have them made or to buy them readymade. Lately I've been enjoying painting on board or on canvas board - a different kind of resistance to the stretched canvas, I've found.

I also use things that are handy - carboard is okay, and you can get interesting textures also. And lately I've been having fun with collage, for which you can use just about anything that glue will hold. It's fun to use with acrylic paints. What are some essential art supplies that you feel every REAL artist (drawing/painting stuff) must have?
Every real artist has a kneaded eraser (gray and putty-like) and a white rubber eraser, I guarantee it-- they're just too useful to go without.

Most of it is personal preference. I happen to like Prismacolor colored pencils, markers etc.

Staedtler is good for drawing pencils

I like Strathmore Windpower Sketchbooks (because they're made in factories that use 100% wind power energy and the paper quality is good)

Painting, I'm not sure (I'm an illustrator, not a painter)

Percy was right. Once you get confident enough, you realize that nobody is judging you on what kind of materials you're using and once you're skilled enough, you can compensate for the shortcomings of medium-grade art supplies (although calling someone else 'low quality' is usually just a marketing ploy of the most expensive supplies)
Wallpaper lining paper is excellent for drawing on and encourages a free approach as there is so much of it that you won't get ';precious'; about your work. Charcoal also encourages a free approach and can be lifted off with white bread and fixed with hairspray. Often pencil is better for more detailed drawing.

Experiment with different media to discover what suits you but limit the number of colours you buy! Start with just 3 or 4 and learn how to mix them as subtly as possible before moving on to acquiring new colours. If you are painting in water colours it is worth buying good brushes but try some large ones as well as fiddly little sable ones- there are some quite reasonably priced Chinese ones available. Don't use your sable brushes with acrylic and make sure you wash acrylic off your brushes before it dries or you will ruin them!
For drawing, look for newsprint paper for practicing. It's cheap crummy paper, any brand is fine.

When you are ready to draw on better paper, I like the sketchpads on spirals so the pages don't fall out... either buy a pencil set or buy a range of pencils individually... The number is the darkness and the letter says how soft the graphite is. For instance, 6B means dark and soft, 1H means light and hard. Good brands of pencils are Staedtler or Derwent I think

As for paint, the most reliable acrylic brand of paint is Winsor %26amp; Newton Designers Gouache.
Well, when I started out, I had the backs of a few dozen old greetings cards, some pieces of old cardboard boxes, a couple of pencil stubs , a cheap set of poster paints and a little tin of watercolours; it's not what you've got that matters, but rather what you do with it ! Heard that song about L. S Lowry-- ' He painted Salford's smoky 'tops, on cardboard boxes from the shops' ? Well, it's true !
we all through that phase then you get confident and it doesnt matter

i have all the expensive wood stuff

but now i us a plastic tool box

and a bit of coreflute for a pallet

dont buy every paint under the sun

a visual diary and charcola pencil a 2 b pencil a putty rubber thats it

you cant buy your self to being able to draw or paint
A real artist uses whatever gives them the best result, mostly it's down to preference as to what supplies you use. It really doesn't matter what materials you use, its the talent of the artist that determines the result.

I have Bought an oil painting supplied on a rolled up canvas how do i frame it ?and hang it ?

I am a professional framer. I would have it done professionally. There are a lot of variables. If it has really thick paint in some areas you run the risk of the paint cracking when it is stretched. Nothing can be done about that. Professional artists will paint on the canvas when it is stretched and it will restretch much better. I see a lot of canvases that come from tourist areas and are done on the canvas that is not stretched. That presents the problem of cracking. It is hard to give you advice without seeing the piece. Your can build a frame and do it your self. I would use 1 x 2 pine. Make sure it is perfectly square. If your piece is large, you will need a brace across mid way so the sides don't bow.You have to use soft wood so you can staple into it. Pull it as tight as you can (we use a tool for stretching) and staple on the back side. If you make your frame small enough so the color comes around the edges (called gallery stretching) you can hang it without a frame. This is very popular right now. Good luck.I have Bought an oil painting supplied on a rolled up canvas how do i frame it ?and hang it ?
A professional picture framer can stretch it and frame it for youI have Bought an oil painting supplied on a rolled up canvas how do i frame it ?and hang it ?
It's probably acrylic, which is not a criticism.

If it IS oil, you're in trouble as it will fall off the canvas when opened out.

Take it to a framer who will stretch it first then frame as desired.
If money is a problem and the painting is not worth a great deal but is of sentimental value, build a wooden frame a little smaller than the canvas and stretch the edges over and tack into place. then it can be inserted in an outer frame, however, paintings can, and are hung without an outer frame. It is unlikely that the oil paint will drop off unless it is very old, however, you should take care when doing this work. You can also use a ply board, cutting to size and tack the canvas to it. (Glue may spoil the canvas)

To hang it, buy two screw-in small hooks, attach them 2/3 of the way up each side. Stretch a length of twine between, leaving it fairy tight because it will stretch with the weight.
If it is a really good oil painting then it must be well worth having it mounted and framed professionally.
The above is all good advice, and i agree that the there is a good chance of the paint cracking if re-stretched, therefore i would offer another solution of simply mounting the canvas on board, avoiding the re-stretching altogether, you don't get the authentic 'look' of the stretched canvas but its an almost imperceptible difference anyway and the painting will be at least crack free. again it would be best to get this done by a professional
I advise you to follow DAkframe麓s advice.

I am a professional artist and the business of restreaching a canvas is not especially easy even for an experienced framer, and there is a good chance that you will damage the picture in the process.
use your common sense, get framed for you, otherwise roll out store flat between sheets of acid free paper, tissue paper is a good bet, like all your other answers you make the call wether the painting is of a value to you. you have been given some very sound advice from lots of professionals on framing and stretching a painted surface, the medium, and quality of base, and method of application all play a role in achieving a success, good luck, regards LF

I painted a mural, now the client will not pay the $730 owed for labor and supplies. All advice wanted.?

If you have a written contract or sales agreement of some kind, then you have a few options. I'd start by dealing directly with the customer that owes you the money. If they want to pay but claim to not have the money then work out a system where they pay you what they can, or demand that they get a small loan and pay you.

if they still don't pay you can take them to small claims court or look into selling the debt to a collection agency. either way you'll loose some money but you wont be out the full $730.

If all you had was a verbal agreement then you might be out of luck. Not saying you should give up, but take it as a lesson for the future. Always get a contract in writing. Get a small portion up front before performing work, and make sure that the contract specifies when payment is due. Also make sure it is clear what the customer's options are if they aren't satisfied.

Good LuckI painted a mural, now the client will not pay the $730 owed for labor and supplies. All advice wanted.?
Is the client a business ? If so, and this isn't a threat but a promise, let your client know that you're going to run an ad in your community newspaper about his non payment for work done on his business. Sounds silly, but powerful !!! Let him know that this is theft of service rendered and that you're follow up to this ad will be small claims court. Let him know that you're serious, and that this issue isn't going to just go away. I would also contact the Department Of Consumer Protection in your area, they may either be able to help you or lead you in the right direction. Stand up for yourself and don't let this client take advantage of you, get your $730 . Be sure to tell everyone about your experience with this client, hopefully you can save someone from being his next victim.I painted a mural, now the client will not pay the $730 owed for labor and supplies. Can anyone supply me with a paint code for a black Kawasaki ER6F (2007 registered)?

I have had a bit of an accident when my motorcycle fell off the side stand and developed a few scratches. I need to obtain a paint code to respray a couple of the fairing panels.

Could anyone supply me with this code for a black 2007 registered model. It seems very difficult to obtain the code in order to purchase the paint. It's supposed to be

Black is The Most Difficult to patch,,,it shows every flaw.

Being a Metallic makes things worse,,because that flake sets up a sort of ';Knap'; in the paint.

Use a little extra care in prep, primering etc,

And spraying as wide an area as is practical ,,,rather than a small spot,,, will blend much easier and better.

And reduce HiLighting of the repaired area.

Hope any of that helps,,,and that your project comes out very nicely.

    Good Luck

As long as you are not spraying this it has a Health Rating of 1 which is classified as ';slight.'; Adequate ventilation is all that is recommended.

If you are spraying it use a respirator. Even though there is not a toxic chemical danger, the atomized particles of acrylic will cause damage to your lungs.Has anyone painted with Urethane Acrylic without air supplied respirator?

How much should i bid to paint 93 trailers/mobile homes per home if materials AREN'T supplied? ?

If you're asking strangers for help on this, it doesn't sound like you're ready for this job. You could really lose your *** if you underbid this, and if you overbid it, somebody else will probably get the job.

This is a basic business kind of question, and involves things only you can best answer. How many hours labor will each unit take, how much will that labor cost per hour including overhead and taxes, how much will insurance cost, and how much risk are you in if the paint doesn't stick or whatever or if somebody gets hurt during this job or somebody claims they got sick from your paint or? Then, add in a suitable profit for having bid the job in the first place. Add in some more for the risk you're taking. Of course, add in the materials cost too, plus markup since you'll probably be paying for it up front but you won't collect until the job's done. That's how much to bid, more or less. Of course, you're usually competing against a whole bunch of other guys that are doing the same thing. Someone once pointed out to me that every bit of modern infrastructure we depend on was performed by the lowest bidder! How much should i bid to paint 93 trailers/mobile homes per home if materials AREN'T supplied? ?
I agree with 'Say it' - you need to know the date they need it commenced and finished, that will account for additional labour costs, materials, cleaning and preparation required, type of surface (ie Time and materials to patch and prime, time of year because paint will only apply and dry in certain temperatures), travel distance, do they want the work done on-site or off site? I think you had better find out about the requirements and contract before you bid - did they provide any 'Tender' specifications. Even for such things as required finishes. How much should i bid to paint 93 trailers/mobile homes per home if materials AREN'T supplied? ?
I would not be asking that here. It will vary by geographical location; material costs; hours of labor. If you can't calculate it yourself, or get help from a local qualified individual I would reconsider bidding it at all.

A lubricator adds oil to the air, which is great for air driven tools (impact wrench, air ratchet, etc.) but is not good at all for paint. The oil will contaminate the paint, and cause problems.

AND, most of the time, what I order is in stock. Don't bother with their club though. What place in the world has the cheapest bulk art supplies? Needing paper, acrylics, canvas, paints, brushes.

I spent hours last weekend researching that very question as I ordered about $600 worth of new art paints and supplies and wanted to make sure that I was getting the best deal. By far THE BEST I found is www.misterart.com. They had the best prices across the board. You can get an even better price if you put in the coupon code which is good through Dec for aditional 10% off. (Y38N74G) for purchases over $67.

I would reccomend highly the Ruby Silver brushes for acrylics. They hold their egde and don't go bad when left forgotten in water. You get free shipping over $200 and no tax if you do not live inTexas.

What basic art supplies do i need to begin painting with oil paints? ?

other than an easel? What basic art supplies do i need to begin painting with oil paints? ?
That depends on what you want to do exactly, but some things that are good things to keep on hand are odourless mineral spirits, liquin, cobalt dryer, rags, pallets (I usually just buy cheap baking pans from Wal-Mart), masking tape, pallet knives, a variety of brushes, and a lot of white mixer paint (I prefer titanium white). What basic art supplies do i need to begin painting with oil paints? ?
You need something to paint on. You can use canvas or wood- either have to be prepped with gesso. You can stretch and prep your own canvas to save money or buy already prepped canvases. If you are trying to save money, you can also gesso over old paintings you buy at Goodwill.

You need brushes. Don't buy extremely cheap brushes; hairs will fall off in the painting. I would get a med/large brush and one smaller brush. I would get flat brushes before the round brushes. Eventually you will need more but you need at least 2 to start.

As far as paint, you might find it easiest to buy the ';starter'; kit that has the most popular colors and white. That should give you enough to mix most anything you need to start. Most contain linseed oil and turpentine.

You need a pallet. The easiest is the throw away paper pallets. The cheapest is to ';borrow'; trays from you college caffeteria- but i never did that. You can use anything plastic or metal or other surface that you can squeeze the paint onto and mix on. You want something the oil won't seep through. Goodwill can be another cheap source for a pallet. I like pie tins.

You also could use old jars to hold brushes and turp. Rags are important but be careful where you store or dispose of used oily rags!!
a palette, linseed oil, and some rags.

Cheap supplies for painting on canvas?

I am looking for canvas, paintbrushes and tools, and paint?

I went online to look for some.. the canvases were pretty cheap but I was astounded at how expensive the paint was!

Is it cheaper to use acrylic or oil paint? I would like to use one of these.. could you give me links to a website that has cheap art supplies?

Thanks!!Cheap supplies for painting on canvas?
You can use either water based or oil paints on primed canvas. All the pre-stretched canvases you find online and in stores are primed with white acrylic or gesso. The less expensive paint is water based. I would suggest using acrylics.

The cheapest way to buy acrylics is in a starter set, not in individual tubes or jars. You can find several sets in craft stores like Michaels or discount art supply sites like Jerry's Artarama. If you buy a smaller set of five or six basic colors, you can mix them to make other colors (yellow and blue make green, yellow and red make orange, red and blue make purple, etc.)

You can often save a fair bit of money by buying some supplies at hardware stores. Many of the paints, primers, brushes, thinners and clear coats at the hardware store are a fraction of the cost of the very same things packaged up for the specialty art stores.

Ebay. Online art stores include Dick Blick, Italian Art Store, Jerry's, and more. Various manufacturers offer their own online stores as well like Utrecht, Daniel Smith, Blue Ridge, and so forth.

Here is a good 4-color limited palette. Using a limited palette can save you money, but it does have the drawbacks of more time spent mixing and less intense colors on some points of the color wheel:

    Quinacridone Magenta (PR 122)

    Cobalt Teal (PG 50)

    French Ultramarine Blue (PB 29)

    Cadmium Yellow (PY 35)

    + White

    Options:

You can replace Cobalt Teal with Phthalo Green Blue Shade, or supplement it by adding Phthalo Green Yellow Shade. You can also replace Cobalt Teal with Manganese Blue and add Phthalo Green Yellow Shade.

You can replace the Quinacridone Magenta with Cobalt Violet Light + Anthraquinone Red. If you go this route, you can also replace Cadmium Yellow with Bismuth Lemon (PY 184).

You can add Mars Black (highly recommended).

Here is the fuller 6 color (plus black) palette:

    Cobalt Violet Light (PV 49)

    Anthraquinone Red (PR 177)

    French Ultramarine Blue (PB 29)

Manganese Blue (PB 33) or Phthalo Cyan (PB 17)

Phthalo Green Yellow Shade (PG 36)

Cadmium or Hansa Yellow (PY 35/97)

    Mars Black (PBk 11)

    + White

    Options:

Substitute Quinacridone Red (PR 209) for Anthraquinone Red and substitute Bismuth Yellow (PY 184) for Cadmium Yellow. This will provide you with a brighter red and brighter greens. Or you can use Anthraquinone/Quinacridone Red + Bismuth Yellow + Isoindolinone Yellow (PY 110) in order to have a warm orange-yellow and a cool greenish-yellow. This expands the palette to 7 colors.

You can see how the colors fit on the color wheel here:

I'm not sure what stores you have in Wa...being that i'm in Pa :)

Michaels and A.C. Moore are both kinda pricey, but they have really good paints/brushes and kits which would supply both. I would suggest looking at Ollie's because I had gotten a full set of Donna Dewberry brushes there for $2, and I LOVE them! They also have cheap paints. I'm not sure if they sell them all the time though or just once and a while.

Best of luck and hope I helped! :)
Well I dont know much about every store but they sell art supplies in Walmart and Michaels. there are canvases in Walmart and Michaels. But mostly they sell art supplies in Michaels.

Yeah it is a 100 rounds if you fire one PB in each round. Which is all you will be able to squeeze off anyway.

Does Meijers or Wal-Mart sell painting supplies like for art and paintings ect.?

There the only places open now and I don't want to drive that far without knowing firstDoes Meijers or Wal-Mart sell painting supplies like for art and paintings ect.?
They do both carry basic supplies but as someone else mentioned, the quality isn't the greatest in some of their products. They cheap-o paint there that's some off brand isn't worth buying. The Decoart Americana Acrylics at Meijers are fine, along with the Delta Paints at Walmart, but avoid the Apple Barrel paints. The brushes at both places are pretty bad. A quality brush DOES make a difference in the results of your work. If you have a Joann's near you they have a better brush selection, or Michael's.Does Meijers or Wal-Mart sell painting supplies like for art and paintings ect.?
yeah like everybody else said, wallmart does have some quality paints. i jut brought an acrylic set from there, and they're pretty awwsome
I know walmart does. Back by the material and sewing stuff.
yes, walmart's craft section is pretty extensive.

i've never been in a Meijers
    what steve said.
As long as it's a super wal mart they have a decent selction of stuff. It's back by the sewing and craft stuff

    Painting supplies + Toronto?

Does anyone know where i can find some cheap painting supplies in Toronto, Canada? Also does anyone know how to get your paintings shown in a gallery? ThanksPainting supplies + Toronto?
the best ones I've found are downtown....some of my faves are 'Above Ground Art Supplies' on McCaul Street and GWARTZMAN'S (Spadina) plus there is always Loomis and Toles as well as Curry's (there one on Yonge, Dundas and Queen). Also, during the school year, York University has a small art store in their fine arts building that has good quality stuff for a decent price. As for getting your work show in galleries... the best thing to do is Network!!!! Make friends with other artists, which will help because then you all can keep each other informed about shows. If you're in school, there should be flyers or announcements posted, perhaps in the fine art areas, wanting artists for various shows. Also, here's a link i found from Toronto Culture (link below). Best place to perhaps contact or go down to is OCAD. Hope this helps :)

Does anyone know of a good (& inexpensive) art supply store in L.A.? I'm going to buy oil painting supplies.

Depends on what area of LA you live in.

Dick Blick's probably has the cheapest prices. They have stores in West LA (on Santa Monica Blvd.), the Fairfax area (on Beverly Blvd.), a store in Pasadena and Glendale. Everyone that works at Blick's seems to be artists, too. So the help you get will be from experienced people.

Pearl has the one store in the Fairfax area (as has already been mentioned). Their prices are fair but I've found that their service sucks. If you're that close to Pearl you just as well drive the extra ten blocks over to Blick's on Beverly Blvd. You'll get better service and the parking is better there.

Right down the street (two blocks South) from the Blick's on Santa Monica Blvd. is a Urtech Art Supply Store. Urtech only sells their own brand of oil and acrylic paints so I don't buy paint there. However, they sell canvas and brushes at discount prices.

If you live in the valley the best place to go (with a great selection and great help at fair prices) is Continental Art Supply. Everyone that works at Continental are artists, too, so you can trust their advice. They are on Reseda, a block South of Sherman Way.

Stay away from Aaron Brothers. They are way too expensive. And the chair store called Michael's (which is owned by Aaron Brothers) is also too expensive.Does anyone know of a good (%26amp; inexpensive) art supply store in L.A.? I'm going to buy oil painting supplies.

  • Painting supplies??

I wanted to start painting and I was wondering how much the supplies would cost. This includes a paintbrush, a canvas (medium), and tempera paint. I couldn't find prices anywhere online.Painting supplies??
It tends to get a little expensive.

Canvases range depending upon size. I've seen tiny ones for about $5.00 to very large at $250-$500. There are many ';medium'; sized canvases, but I assume what your looking for should be somewhere between $15-$50.

Its usually cheaper to buy your materials and stretch your own canvases if you plan on doing a lot of painting.

You can buy ';brush kits'; for $10-$20. I buy packs of 15 at a time and you can find them in most tips and sizes.

Paint will usually run you $1.50-$10.00 a bottle depending on the brand, or if its oil or acrylic, etc.

    Oil Painting Supplies?

My mother has said she wants to try oil painting. I'd like to buy her the things she needs to get started for Christmas. I don't know a thing about oil painting, can anyone suggest what I need to get for her? She tole paints already, can she use the same brushes or does she need a special kind. I also don't know what she needs to paint on, can she use oil paint on anything or do i need to buy her special type of paper or canvas?Oil Painting Supplies?
Go to a craft store like Michael's and pick up a few brushes. Maybe 2 rounds in different sizes and 2 flats in different sizes. Then get a small oil paint kit that has an array of colors. She will need a medium which is like an oil that mixes with the oil paint to make it the right consistency for painting. A small thing of Liquin for Oils would be a good start because it makes the oils dry faster.

There is a product called Canvas Paper. You get about 10 sheets for a great price. This is perfect for the beginner because they don't take up much room (like stretched canvas) and are easily framed. Plus if she does a couple paintings that she doesn't like she won't feel bad trashing the canvas paper because its not expensive.

I typically tape my canvas paper on to a piece of wood so that it can be propped up making the painting easier. She could use masking tape around the edges to secure the canvas paper to the board. BTW, with canvas paper the surface is already primed for paint so no need for Gesso.

Then once her skills improve she can move on to higher quality paints, brushes, and stretched canvas.Oil Painting Supplies?
She will need paint - Windsor Newton has a good student grade paint. Usually they have starter sets that include 8 or 10 colors that would probably be good to get started. She will need a painting medium try Galkyd or Stand oil. She can paint on anything if you also buy Gesso. Gesso protects the surface from the paint. Gesso is painted on in a layer on top of paper, canvas, or wood. Without Gesso over time the surface would deteriorate from the paint. You can use any brushes. I would recommend brushes with thicker bristles like boar. You will also need a solvent to get the paint out of the brushes, mineral spirits will work. You will need a paint palate and a palette knife for mixing paint. It is better to invest in good quality supplies when starting any new art venture. Low quality supplies will make the process very frustrating and more difficult. I would highly recommend good paints, brushes, and mediums.
    You can go to

    www.dickblick.com

and buy art supplies. But for a beginner, you can go to the craft dept of Walmart or a chain craft store and purchase an oil painting or acrylic painting set with almost everything you need. You'll need to purchase pre-primed stretched canvas or canvas board. Canvas comes in various qualities, and most sold in walmart and craft stores is pre-primed. Dick Blick sells a student grade that is inexpensive but since she is a novice a pack of three canvas boards from walmart would be an acceptable inexpensive alternative. Canvas board is a thin sheet of canvas glued over heavy cardboard. You will need to buy brushes that say oil or acrylic on them. You can usually find some in an assortment pack so she will have an assortment of sizes to pick from without emptying your pocketbook! The painting sets usually come with only one or two brushes .Quality Oil paints /acrylics and accessories like brushes and canvas can get very expensive. Until she decides that she likes oil painting, I'd keep it simple. I personally use acrylics. They have a similar consistency to oils but dry much faster. Hope this helps

There are tons of brushes to choose from.. I recommend Hog brushes... They are the choice of brush for oil colour professionals.. (Thicker bristles to with hold oil paint)... also get her some linseed oil or mineral spirits... something to help her clean up those messy brushes... she can use baby oil too... little secret they never tell u :)

Paper is no good for oil paint... she will need some canvas (make sure it's white... has gesso primer on it, otherwise she will need a bottle of gesso.. most come primed already though)... they have boards and stretchers... the boards are pretty cheap for her to play on... try Pat Catans... they are pretty reasonable... and if you gets items there with white tags.. u automatically get 40% off.. or check the Sunday adds for JoAnnes.. they usually have a 40% off coupon and they usually have some nice oil paints and canvas's.... maybe even a kit like this winton one...http://www.artcity.com/wan-1490617.html

i swear i really don't feel like painting on a saturday night. how much did anyone end up spending on supplies? and how long did it take for one bedroom.Painting bedroom tonight? how much am i gonna end up spending on supplies?
It usually costs me around $300/room and it takes about 2 days....Painting bedroom tonight? how much am i gonna end up spending on supplies?
Depends on how well you plan on doing your work.

Fresh start primer is about $27.00/gal get it tinted the same color you want the room to be. Two coats so figure approx 300 sq ft per gal. I get only about 275 cause i put it on thick. Ben Moore paint varies but I always go semigloss at approx $37.00/ gal again about 300sq ft per gal.

Since I have no idea if you are doing the ceiling or how big the room is that is the closest I can give you. I always mask and spray so paint time is about 30 min prep time about 3 hours. Dry time with a good circulating fan in room is about 8 hours. Spray Sat night at about 10 pm spray again next morn about 8am spray again around 6 pm at night on Sun. wait 2 hours and carefully start unmasking be done by 10 pm
    Around 200-300 hundred will do
I am painting my sons smaller bedroom this weekend, just went to menards yesterday and bought paint(1 gallon paint, 1 gallon of tinted primer), brushes, painters tape, pack of 2 polyester rollers(I already had the roller handle) , and 3 sheets of paneling, costed me around $100 but thats including the $$ I spent on paneling, to repanel one wall. So depending on whether you need 1 or 2 gallons of each paint %26amp; primer. I say around $75- $100.
IT COSTS ME AROUND 80 DOLLARS FOR PAINT 1 GALLON WALL COLOR AND 1 GALLON HIGH GLOSS WHITE FOR TRIM THEN YOU NEED A REALLY GOOD ROLLER AND A REALLY GOOD CUT IN BRUSH I START DOING ALL MY CUT INS FIRST THEN I ROLL.... TAKES ABOUT 2-3 HOURS AND CAN RUN UNDER A HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS..
Depending on what your painting, guess for ceiling, walls, 2 windows and 2 doors. one coat on all your looking no more than $100 and it would take me a day and a half (myself) and I would charge you $600 plus the materials. I live in the northeast Good luck Les the painter. and I use Ben Moore paint

How much should i charge to roller paint outside a 1700 sq-ft house? just paint it .and he supply the paint?

floor square ft doesn't help you need to measure your siding if theirs no prep work your looking at about .25-.30 cents a square siding ft that should put you at about 5 to 10% ether side of what every one else is charging

Subcontractor supplied paint, was defective and stated it had10 yrs guarantee, what are my legal obligations?

Down to the Sub Contractor to rectify -

ADDED - OK to clear this up - you hired a subcontractor to do a job - they/he bought the paint so the Contract Of Sale is with them and their supplier - covered by Sale Of Goods Act and is not of merchantable quality, i.e. does not do the job it is intended to do.

The purchase of the paint is between the Buyer %26amp; Seller - it is down to the sub contractor to rectify in liaison with the supplier.

HOWEVER - have you considered that the paint may not be at fault - it may have been the application by the sub contractor - in any case - it is down to them to rectify.Subcontractor supplied paint, was defective and stated it had10 yrs guarantee, what are my legal obligations?
Ask him to show a printed copy of the warranty statementSubcontractor supplied paint, was defective and stated it had10 yrs guarantee, what are my legal obligations?
Well if you where the one painting, then your obligation is to make right what ever defect is apparent... ie: repaint if you where the person who was having the painting done. you need to discuss with this contractor that he needs to redo the job to your satisfaction. so many ppl do not realize that when they hire someone and they do a sub par job that they have the right to question it and demand it being done right.
you need to take that up with the state you live in, all states are different (as are cities and counties.)
Is the guarantee in writing? then you have a chance
Look on the side of the tin and you should find a help line number. Call it an tell them the problem. They will if they are a reputable company, replace the paint for you. If work has been done using the defective paint they will also reimburse you for the hours lost by having to re paint.

I had a problem with ICI paint Dulux and they paid me back 拢450 within 2 days of receiving my invoice.
You need to ask him to come back and rectify this a.s.a.p.

If this is in writing then he will have to attend if it is not then he may just ignore you. If he only did part of the whole job can you get in touch with the contractor who employed him.

Could you also get in touch with the paint manufacturer and explain your problem. This may be a faulty batch and they might renew same.

Phone your local Health and Safety executive and ask if this paint is safe..i.e. lead content and then report this back to the sub-contractor. Unless you have a written contract with this person then your chances will be slim. Best to approach them on a good will basis and see what they say. Good luck.
The guarantee has nothing to do with you ; only with the person who purchased the paint unless he has also given his own guarantee to you. He supplied materials which were defective, it is for him to rectify that in full. You did not, after all, buy paint from him but a painted wall or house, and that is what you should end up with for the agreed price. If he has a guarantee on the paint then good, he has a claim against the supplier and could even claim for the loss of income because of having to redo the job, but your contract was with him and only with him.

    Art/Painting supplies for Christmas?

What items would be a good Christmas gift for someone who has interest in painting but little experience? Preferably in the price range of $50 to $75 dollars. I have no clue about different kinds of paints, brushes, or all of that good stuff.Art/Painting supplies for Christmas?
gift certificates are like striking gold to us artist types... part of the fun is picking out your tools. If you don't want to go that route, maybe something like a nice easel, work desk, or a set of decent brushes. Chances are if they are just starting out they won't need full blown sable brushes, but a nice synthetic like gold taklon in a range of sizes is good to have. The brand Robert Simmons (sold at michael's and ac moore) is very nice with a good range of quality brushes.Art/Painting supplies for Christmas?
urrp has it going on...do that.
i agree with jen- gift cards are always great, but if you want to buy the items yourself, acrylic paint is great. It has advanced so much that one can stretch the limits of painting. If the person is a beginner, i would suggest buying from the brand Basic. Canvases are a must as well. As far as paint brushes go, they can be expensive, but make sure you get good ones. A bad paintbrush can ruin a painting. It would also be nice if you wanted to go further- mediums are incredible with acrylic paint.
I would recomend a gift certificate to an art store - them let them get what they need for whatever class they take. Or get them an art lesson.

  • I am wanting to start putting together a painting supply kit for my partner for Christmas. What do I need?

I know there are so many different types of paint and brushes out there. I want to put together an amazing kit for him to start painting with. What types of oils/colors and what types of brushes will I need to buy? Also, any types of accessories? I am wanting to start putting together a painting supply kit for my partner for Christmas. What do I need?
Suggest getting the primary colors and a large tube of white and apropriate brushes. (Sable for oils or water color, synthetic for acrylic)

    Brushes:

    Fan brush

    Round

    Flat

    Liner

2'; brush (hardware store is cheaper)

    Throw in a pallet knife

    Turpentine and Linseed oil

Acryllic extender (if you include acryllics in your package)

Canvasses (assorted sizes - walmart has good deals)

    Buy mid-range priced items.

Here's a great online source if you have the time to wait: http://www.cheapjoes.com/ Otherwise craft stores, even wallyworld are a good source.

How nice of you! Very thoughtful idea.I am wanting to start putting together a painting supply kit for my partner for Christmas. What do I need?
I suggest acrylics, now days they are just as good sometimes even better than oils. and Much easier to deal with especially if your(or his) studio will be at home. The fumes from oil supplies is horrible! With acrylics you just need paint(utrecht, liquitex, and golden are great brands) brushes(pick about 4 different sizes/styles the rest you get as projects call for), canvas or paper, and a pallet(I use wax paper). I like my desktop easel a lot, because it has a storage drawer for my paints and brushes. A good place to buy from is pearl paints or utrecht linens, they also have a website you can order from, they have great prices! Acrylic also dries faster, oil paint can take weeks/months to dry, which is a pain in my opinion because then it's sitting around for weeks and you can't move it without possibly messing it up.good luck and that sounds like a great gift!!
    Hi,

Try to know what he might prefer : oils, acrylics, soft pastels, etc.

If he's not experienced, I'd avoid watercolour; but if he likes it, then go for it.

Do buy some decent brushes (especially if you go for watercolours).

There's no need to buy expensive ones, but don't go cheap.

As for colours, you can buy a set with 10 or 12 colours that usually comes with linseed oil and turps or a medium (can include linssed oil) and turps. It may also carry a few brushes and the things to put the oil and turp in (which name in english I can't remember).

I would like to say that usually beginners have the tendency to buy smaller brushes than they should.

What are the basic supplies needed for oil painting?

Canvas, or comparable painting surface, gesso if you are priming your own canvas or surface.

Long handled bristle brushes, in a variety of shapes and sizes (at least a big and little round, a big and little flat, a big and little filbert).

A good palette, you can either use a wooden palette or glass. Plexiglass doesn't work so well.

A variety of paint colors. At least your basic colors plus white, brown and black. Some artists will argue about black, so go with what makes you more comfortable.

You will also need some solvent, such as mineral spirits or turpentine for cleaning brushes or for broad washes. Dawn dish washing liquid also works really well for cleaning brushes, it gets all the oil out of the brushes and leaves the bristles soft.

You can go to most any bookstore and find a basic oil painting guide to get you started, or look up someone giving classes for beginners. Either source will give you a good starting point for colors and basic materials. What are the basic supplies needed for oil painting?
The most important thing is to have a well ventilated space you don't mind getting messy to paint in. This isn't something you can do at the kitchen table or a living area.

Paints, at least 6 colors plus white.

Long handled oil paint brushes: Several flats of different sizes, a couple of round brushes, a couple of different style palette knives, a wood or plastic palette, an easel (floor or table top) several clean old plastic or metal containers, oil painting medium, odorless solvent to clean brushes and thin paint, and lots of old rags.

US company? Chinese run company located in China.
China does not respect the environment so much that over 300,000,000 of it's citizens drink from polluted water. Also they do not respect our safety laws. What exactly is the acceptable levels of lead based paint any way?
I agree. Most of the Chinese companies are likely contract manufacturers, regardless ultimate responsibility lies with the US company enlisting their services. Obviously the US company did not do a good job ensuring proper inspections and requirements were in place to protect their customers. They should be fined and fined heavily!
Apparently you do not understand how supply chains work.

Companies sub-contract work in order to leverage their production capacity. The control of these sub-contractors is always a matter that leads to such problems. The subs, in an attempt to increase profitability and in the believe that they are somehow isolated from liability, will choose the cheapest materials they can get away with.

No. This isn't blame America first this time. China is responsible. You have to understand China's manufacturing patterns. They are not like ours where most items are produced in one spot. China has a history of producing many parts in many locations, and then they are assembled at a specific location. This is a strategy that originates from WW II. The pattern continues today. In the case of the toys, they were sent to a certain location after assembly to be painted - the last task in the process. It was the painting facility that acquired the wrong paint. America didn't do it. The U.S. has learned that if trade goods don't cross borders, one day soldiers will. That's ONE reason for this manufacturing agreement. However, I liked the days where America manufactured for America.

Your best bet would be Eason's, a chain of book and artist's supply shops, but I don't know whether they are in Kilkenny and Enniskillen as well as in Cork. It's very likely for Killkenny, less for Enniskillen since that's in the 6 counties, where there is Boots, but they dont always have artists' supplies. Anyway, best to ask the locals while you are there.

I am wanting to start putting together a painting supply kit for my partner for Christmas. What do I need?

Now, depending upon your budget, it goes without saying that the gold over blue would include and easel. If you can't afford a full size easel, there are some table ones that are quite accessible.

Anyway, on a side note I will say that the value of your gift is not in its commercial value but in your intention. However these days people seem to forget that.

  • Free painting supplies... how would I find this?

I woud like to try painting. I don't want to buy all the suppies: paints in many colors, brushes, canvas etc. I don't even know if I will like painting or not. I wondered if anyone has any ideas. even if I did find an affordable class, I'm not sure they would be teaching a style I would want to learn. I already took landscape painting classes as a child, I want to try something more modern/ abstract I think now. Mostly I just want access to the supplies.Free painting supplies... how would I find this?
Check with a library or community center or art museum in your area to see if there are any free or inexpensive art classes. I have had success doing this. Remember they may not teach subjects you are interested in but you will learn how to use the materials and perhaps design principles. Those are principles you need to know whether painting a pot of flowers or something abstract.Free painting supplies... how would I find this?
    try water colors on paper.

What kind of supplies do i need for an art painting?

im doing a project for my art class and im paiting two hands holding and making a heart.. and what do i need to paint it? im going to JoAnns and Micheals tmro. also im using water colors.. or oil paint. idk... whats the best paint? What kind of supplies do i need for an art painting?
I'd go with acrylic paints. Get that, brushes (i go to micheals and I know they have info to help you find what type of brushes to use for acrylic paints), a canvas or canvas board. With acrylics, it's very easy to go over what you have done. With watercolors you can't hide your mistakes, they are very layer oriented, which can be good, I'm just a bigger fan of acrylic. Oil paints are like acrylics that forever to dry, and you have to buy turpintine or turpiniod to wash the paint off the brushes (water doesn't work because they're oils) and those do not smell good.

Well hope that helped and best of luck with your painting. What kind of supplies do i need for an art painting?
Watercolor, you would use watercolor paper, not canvas. Oil paint or acrylic you would use a canvas. Watercolor is probably cheaper. Do you have any experience with either one?

What supplies to I need to get my wife started in painting?

My wife is a very talented artist, but she hasn't painted in some time because of our children. They are getting old enough where she should have some free time to paint again and I would like to get her everything she needs to get re-started. All of her other supplies were lost in a flood. I want this to be a surprise, so I can't just ask her. Any suggestions would be great. Name brands and types would be helpful as well, because I am oblivious. What supplies to I need to get my wife started in painting?
If she has been an artist for some time that she will know the quality of whatever product you get her.. if you want to get her quality product that won't break the bank, I would go with ';winsor and newton'; products... You find them at JoAnne Fabrics or better yet Pat Catans... They make watercolor, acrylic, oil.. maybe get a variety... they have kits that come with brushes as well.. make sure if you get brushes they are right for your paint (watercolor brushes for watercolor paint. etc... they will be labeled to make it easier for you). If she likes watercolor, than I would get her a watercolor block (Sheets of heavy paper glues together on the sides to prevent paper from rippling), if she likes oil.. than maybe a few canvas boards... maybe put it all in a basket or something... well the small stuff :)

Another thought.. if she lost her last work in a flood maybe it would really mean something to her if you were able to get her a waterproof case for whatever work she does in the future.. might put her at ease about not loosing it again... maybe some waterproof sealers as well... you can never be too safe ya know... good luck! :)

http://www.winsornewton.com/What supplies to I need to get my wife started in painting?
Sketch book, drawing paper pad and pencil set would be a good start. Get her a gift card for one of the on-line art supply companies. Cheap Joe's, Jerry's, Dick Blick are good with a lot of variety and good prices.

The local hobby/fabric stores are generally more expensive and have a limited variety not really suited to a talented artist.

If there is a local artist group where you live, find out when and where the meetings are and take her. Also check with a community center who may have art classes which would help her start again.
just get her a sketchbook and some water colours or acrylics,a small medium and a large brush, and a pencil, put no pressure on her she will not be as good as she was for some time, give her something to copy, something that does not matter if it turns out rubbish,a photograph for eg,take her out in the car ,you read the paper or snooze while she sketches through the car window,do not buy her expensive stuff or she will think she has wasted it,if the painting is not as good as she thinks, and it will put her off,be an honest critic because she will be.

just say i.ve bought you some stuff have a dabble when you feel like it, good luck
Good inexpensive source: http://www.cheapjoes.com/ or good old wallyworld.

You don't mention which medium she prefers, water color, acrylic, oil... Get the 3 primary colors, tube of black and white (large) and apropriate extenders (linseed oil, turps, glaze...)

    Pallet knife

    2'; paintbrush (hardware store)

    fan brush

    liner brush

1'; brush (round, flat, depends on the medium - sable for oils and watercolor, synthetic for acrylic)

    pallet

canvasses (flat and/or stretched) or watercolor paper

box to keep them all in

A combination of hogs hair and either synthetic or natural bristles, in flats, rounds, AND filberts in a small, medium, and large of each type is a good start. For broad washes or moving paint around on a big canvas, house-painting brushes or even sponge brushes will do until you are ready for more details and adding some brushstrokes. I probably have about 3 dozen (or more) brushes, and most of them good quality synthetic.

A recommended color list for oils and acrylics might be:

    Cadmium Yellow Light

    Yellow Ochre

    Cadmium Red Light

    Venetian Red

    Cadmium Orange

    Burnt Sienna

    Burnt Umber

    Alizarin Crimson

    Chromium Oxide Green

    Viridian

    Cerulean Blue

    Ultramarine Blue

    Ivory Black

    Titanium white

Here is a link to the Daniel Smith Catalogue so you can read up on acrylics. I know that they ship all over the world. http://catalogs.shoplocal.com/danielsmit鈥?/a>

. . . and another to the Golden website, as they also offer a plethora of information: http://www.goldenpaints.com/

You will also need mediums and if you like the idea of longer working time (as opposed to quick drying) you may want to get a retarder. I have a couple of the peel-off palettes on order so when my used palette is dry, all I do is peel off the old acrylic to reveal the white, hardened plastic surface! Otherwise I tend to use styrofoam plates, but hate to add those to the landfill of late.

The nice thing about acrylics is that you can paint on a good 140lb or heavier paper and fore-go canvas at first. What are the basic supplies needed for acrylic painting?
As mentioned previously, some brushes. You don't need a lot, but be sure to get at least several different sizes and shapes. Also, make sure they're stiff enough. You don't want a watercolor brush, it would really prove to be too weak.

Finally, I highly recommend getting an acrylic retardant. This will slow the drying time, which can be incredibly fast with acrylics. It can be purchased at any decent art supply or craft store.

Be sure to clean your brushes thoroughly immediately when you're finished, and store them in water while painting so the brushes don't dry. Acrylic turns to plastic when it dries, and will destroy your brushes if not cleaned properly.

Lastly, don't ever be afraid to buy a book about acrlyic painting. There are tons out there, and all hit on the same general topics. But they will show you what acrylics are capable of and how to go about getting those effects seen in the book. Get one with great pictures. I'm always an advocate of getting a book. What are the basic supplies needed for acrylic painting?
See my oil painting list and subtract all the smelly things, solvents, medium, dirty rags, and containers of solvent.
a set of paintbrushes; an array of paints (or just the primary colors, red, blue, and yellow; you can make most colors with those). A cup of water and canvas
